A belated thank-you – the action plan tuning experience

Way back in February I unexpectedly became the focus of an action plan tuning discussion group, and what a lucky break it was for me!

I have to confess that I was incredibly nervous as I have never participated in something like this before, but @ddoucet gave me a snapshot of the protocol which was so clear with respect to the timing I thought for sure I could handle it [it probably didn’t hurt that I only had 20 minutes to think about it :)].

It was a really interesting experience, especially the ‘warm & cool’ feedback section. As people were posing questions and making comments, it was so hard not to jump in to answer or clarify what I was trying to do. But I listened and I wrote notes, and I reflected. As a result my ‘how might we’ question changed. It is a little bigger, but I think it has more focus: In a personalized learning unit, how might we monitor and motivate students while learning independently.

For those of you who participated in this discussion, thank you. Your questions/comments helped me to focus

on what I really wanted to do in this unit. I look forward to sharing what I have done and hearing from you once again.

  1. Hey @lmiller,
It was great to have you jump into the protocol after we lost our original participants. You handled it well and it’s so great that you found the experience valuable. I have to credit @ckirsh as she was the one who introduced the group to the Tuning Protocol a few years ago, but I respect its power, as well as the other protocols put out by NSRF http://www.nsrfharmony.org/

Looking forward to seeing what comes of your action plan at the F2F and for years to come! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Great reflection, and I think you’re on a very powerful path forward in designing and framing a personalized approach to learning. Your HMW question speaks less of the minutae, and operations, and stays in the very important ‘frame’ of designing an experience.

It goes without saying, though I’ll articulate it here, that you participating in the protocol was a big lift for others too! Thanks for taking that leap!

    Looking forward to hearing more.
