How might we design/deepen our curriculum for educators + students in order to learn and amplify missing voices and perspectives?
This question guided my inquiry and action plan – and I was surprised I didn’t change it too often! I wrote it in my notebook, on a sticky note on my desk and kept seeing it when I logged into my blog so it became a constant reminder or lens with which I considered. For many years I have considered curriculum as a living, breathing thing that changes – we are all unique, our students our unique, we change, our students change so the curriculum we engage with must change with us. But it can also be utilized to position ourselves, our students and our community – Curriculum as change.
By considered how to amplify missing voices and perspectives I think we can look inward but also create meaningful connections with ourselves and others. That’s my hope and probably the part of the process I learned the most about.
I posed this question in my classes but was interested to learn how our Global Learning and Leading Diploma (GLLD) students (who I wrote about previously) would tackle this. Below are images of their responses, questions and thoughts which took place during one of our modules on Cultural Competencies. For more info click here.
The takeaway for me will be to keep questioning, and learning from each other, our students and our communities. And to continually look through the lens of curriculum as change.
