About Me

I will need to add some more to this… but for now here are a few things ‘about me’!

  • I love to facilitate learning.
  • I really enjoy being active, especially when that activity can be done outdoors!
  • I am an avid reader. I wish I had more time to spend reading!
  • I love being busy, but I have spent a few years now working toward a better work-life balance.
  • I am hoping to become a technology teacher who is technologically savvy!

More to come, I’m certain! … and I was! But time passed (see my other blog post)!

So here are some of the things you would have known about me if I had been at the first F2F session and had filled out a name-tag…

3 things people don’t know about me:

  1. I am actually an introvert by nature (I imagine upon meeting me this may be hard to believe)
  2. I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with Allie Brosh, the sensational comic-blogger known for her internet comic Hyperbole and a Half. If you have not spent some time well-wasted absorbing her words and critically observing her MS Paint masterpieces, you probably should. Not particularly education related and yet my Gr. 11 Summer School Physics class REALLY enjoyed her book of stories this past July… 🙂
  3. I have slightly healthy obsession with mental math. Using it in high school math classrooms almost exclusively (unless I’m really tired), and explaining ‘the magic’ to students is a favourite pastime of mine.

My best teaching moment:

Inappropriate for the internet! Ask me about this if you ever see this page! it involves cell division, a diagram on the white board gone horribly wrong, a whole lot of laughter, and a decision that would inevitably shape the entire year…

My favourite place to be:

In the lake. Swimming.

3 Hopes for Cohort 21;

  1. Integrate social media to classroom/life/philosophy for facilitating learning/etc.
  2. engage students – from flipped classrooms for tech demos, to reducing gaps in math.
  3. engage teachers – from twitter chats to developing a growth mindset among coworkers.
