I am a Chemistry, Physics and Math teacher. I have been teaching at Bayview Glen School since 2005. Prior to that, I spent four years at Damascus Community School in Damascus, Syria, and two years at Western Canada High School in Calgary, Alberta.

I am excited to be a part of Cohort 21, a community of CIS teachers built on a foundation of collaboration and innovation.  Together we will investigate and refine 21st century teaching and learning best practices through the rich experience of “learning by doing”.

  1. Hi Melody,
You are one year ahead of us in Edmonton! I am also a chemistry teacher and am responsible for facilitating professional development in my school of 110 teachers. our district has embraced triangulation of evidence and I am also looking for ways of evaluating and reporting conversations and observations. Anyway we could have an email conversation? My blog is [email protected] and I have a ton of digital science resources to share under my technology integration tab.

  2. Hi Melody,
I’m curious to hear your reflections a couple years after your action plan… are you actively tracking observations and conversations into some grading software?
I’m also a chemistry and physics teacher and am struggling with this. My intention for this year is to open up some columns in my gradebook spreadsheet where I could record indications of standards achievement as a ‘formative’ grade. Not sure how that’s going to go.
    Cheers, and thanks for sharing!
    Mike
