Cohort 21 came to me as a recommendation from colleagues of mine who had experienced this valuable community in seasons prior. I was looking at a way in which I could begin to network with other CIS Ontario schools and was told the immediate answer = Cohort 21. It also landed at a perfect time when I am working on Grade 5 initiative and action research plan to review and improve resilience around the topic of money/ financial literacy in our students. I envisage that engaging in conversation with fellow educational minds will be a truly valuable resource in my action plan and research.
Working specifically in the Lower School, this resonates with the Pedagogy, Belonging, and Wellbeing strand for JK-6. As an individual I have had a long desire to invest (pun intended) in the conversation around money, building a resilience to using money, building a respect for money, and developing a program that puts money into real world use. The school have also recognized the importance of this matter and, aligning with the school’s mission and strategic plan, we are aiming to research the work in this area in other schools, implement ideas into our school, and to develop the worthwhile approach to such a program.

So glad you joined Cohort 21! Looking forward to your posts.
@gjones I hope this comment finds you well. We have one week to go before our 2nd face to face, and I just wanted to check in to see how you are doing. Your support group facilitator and team of coaches are standing by to read and give you feedback on the post above. If you can jump in and answer the questions (see above) this weekend or next week, it will help us personalize your support.
Looking forward to seeing you next weekend at the York School!
@gjones Financial literacy is a topic that many cohort alumni have played with in the past. Great start Gareth! This concept seems to lean towards entrepreneurialism and the potential to even create a classroom/school currency. How to build in the value of money can be a challenging topic, but in what ways might you incorporate a system that would encourage students to work towards earning money and creating resilence through the experience?
I’m looking forward to seeing you on Saturday and hearing more about what you are thinking for your action plan.
Hi Lisa, After a Covid hit last session, I look forward to seeing you in Port Hope this Friday.
