I just finished the first draft of the student activity for the History game ‘Death in Sakkara – An Egyptian Adventure’ (BBC). If you have an hour to spare and want to try a game that takes you on a wild and mysterious ride to Egypt in the 1920s, you might want to give it a try. This game is beautifully produced and well-researched, but notoriously difficult. As a result, I have added in a number of hints on the student activity so you don’t end up pulling your hair out:

If you do try the game using the hints, I’d love to hear about a few things (any or all of them):
- Approximately how long did it take you to complete the game?
- Were the hints useful? Unclear? Too easy?
- Is the student activity easy to understand? Any suggestions?
- Do you think the game and/or student activity is appropriate for advanced Gr.7 students?
- Any other feedback?
No worries if you don’t have the time or interest – I’m going to be play-testing the game and the student activity with at least one Gr.7 class at UTS in April.
Mike – I plan on sharing these games with my humanities teacher and getting some feedback to share. I am really impressed with the quality of the games you have gathered.
Hi Justin – thanks for this. Updated student activity sheets can be found at http://www.changegamer.ca/history.html (both PDF and Word formats). I’m going to do a post about play-testing these with the UTS Gr.7 History classes, but in a nutshell both worked very well, although the ‘Flight to Freedom’ game knocked it out of the park (Mission US series).
