How Might we… move towards building a collection of resources for students to reflect upon and self-regulate their well-being as needed depending on their age and stage?
I’ve enjoyed the extra coaching sessions featured this year in Cohort. One of the activities that I connected to was an activity that Garth shared where we mapped the busier times within the school year to help have a feel of the ebbs and flows of crazy as an educator. It was interesting to plot all of the different milestones, events, and noise that we experience each year. It showcased the heat map of the year.
To connect back to my How Might We question, I think I’d like to do a similar exercise with my students. I’m interested to see how different and similar the exercise would look from a student’s perspective.
One of the refinements from the silent feedback session included asking whether I meant self-regulation when I mentioned “manage their well-being as needed” in my initial question.
At times, I do think I get caught up in thinking about how Grade Six students would respond to an experience, it’s important to remember that junior school is unique due to the variety and scope of age and stage.
The major challenge that remains is curating and finding enough meaningful and useful resources to fit the different needs of the JS community.
