Kahoot was a word that I first heard in our first F2F session back in ohhhh October?! It is incredible how fast time truly passes by. From that day forward, I knew that Kahoot would be a teaching tool, assessment tool and learning tool all combined together into one HOOT of a tool! Get it Hoot!? Anywhoooo… in the weeks following, I successfully tried it out, which my students absolutely loved, and so I began using it on a weekly basis! owl1

Kahoot quickly became an easy tool that I not only used as an assessment tool but also as a learning tool, teaching tool and let’s be honest… a fun way get students excited about learning. I created a Kahoot that acted as a culminating quiz/reflection to our first inquiry unit of the year… The Human Body. Questions were based on information students had gathered and processed throughout the unit based on the central idea and guiding questions we had inquired into as well as overall reflective questions for students but also for myself as a teacher/learner. We Kahooted about the four operations in math, about Halloween, Holiday Trivia, decimals…and the list goes on.

Students are now creating their own Kahoot Quizzes in STEM class as a way to apply their knowledge in a fun a meaningful way. Classmates will get to test their knowledge and creator will have a sense of success, confidence and accomplishment without waiting to see their names on the Top 3 list.

So thank you to my main Cohort 21’ers @gnichols @jmedved and so many others for their constant and continuous wealth of knowledge. I salute you 🙂

  1. Great post and use of a really great tool! My students love it as well and Kahoot has evolved well – I really like the feature that you can save the data from the game and it syncs with your Google Drive account. That way you can always go back to see how students did in a much more detailed way and figured out if they just got excited and didn’t read questions or if there is a gap in their learning.

Sounds like Kahoot is really helping with the gamification of learning! Have you checked out @mikefarley ‘s site for game-based learning – it’s a great site with lots of resources to engage students in their learning http://www.changegamer.ca/

Looking forward to the next F2F, see you at MaRS!

  2. I love that you had students create their own Cahoots. Simple solution yet I never imagined it. I’m really interested as to how those quizzes turned out! Do you let them show and quiz others in class?
