How might we create a space where students have access to tools that help their learning while giving voice, choice and ownership to the student?
Next steps:
- Creating a menu of choices with tools in the classroom. Have a range of learning tools such as wobbly cushions, flexchairs, floor desks, standing desks, timers, and weighted blankets.
- Have students choose from this board during learning blocks to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed
- Communicating with parents about what learning environments look like today
- Lessons on Tools not Toys to ensure tools are being used efficiently
- Reflections with students to discuss which tools help them and which tools they feel they are not benefitting from
Questions:
- How do we make sure students who need the tools are reaching for them and choosing them consistently?
