Name: Ismete Qatipi
I am glad I found and I was able to attend Cohort21. I hope I will come back again to learn more from wonderful Cohort 21 leaders and amazing members.
For the final post I drafted my ideas and then I used ChatGPT to edit it since English is not my mother tongue.
Could I have done it by myself? Yes, but ChatGPT is faster and it helps enrich my English.
I teach the same to my students; first, they try to do something by themselves, then they turn to ChatGPT/AI for help.
I am posting here both versions.
My writing/draft
1. What question guided your inquiry and action plan?
How might we use AI in math and physics class to develop students’ critical thinking?
One way is to use AI as a learning resource.
2. What did you do and what impact did it have?
I prepared an in class assignment that asks students to make their own lesson using 3 different resources: their textbook, teacher’s note and Chat GPT. Students were also asked to compare and contrast those three resources determining the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. The result was beyond my expectations. The students read carefully and study all the material that each resource offered.
3 What did you learn in the process ?
This process was really new to me. It added a new dimension in my thinking as a teacher. It redesigned my thinking. I learned what an action plan is and how to prepare it; starting with the first step determine what’s urgent, HMW up to action plan to solve the problem. I learned a new way to identify, address, tackle and solve a problem.
4 What is your big a takeaway and question do you still have?
I would say I got many “big takeways” not just one, inspiration to try new things in my class based on new mindset, encouragement to look for new paths to reach out my students and meet their needs, the experience of other teachers that they shared.
Final by ChatGPT
- Question Guiding Inquiry and Action Plan: The guiding question for my inquiry and action plan was, “How might we use AI in math and physics classes to develop students’ critical thinking?” One proposed method was to utilize AI as a learning resource.
- Actions Taken and Impact: I devised an in-class assignment where students were tasked with creating their own lessons using three different resources: their textbook, teacher’s notes, and ChatGPT. They were then required to compare and contrast these resources, identifying their respective advantages and disadvantages. The impact exceeded my expectations, as students engaged deeply with the materials provided by each resource.
- Learnings from the Process: This process was entirely novel for me and significantly expanded my perspective as an educator. It introduced a new dimension to my teaching methodology and reshaped my approach. Through this experience, I learned about constructing an action plan, starting from identifying what’s urgent, formulating “How Might We” questions, and crafting actionable plans to address and resolve the identified issues. It introduced me to a fresh method of problem identification, analysis, and resolution.
- Key Takeaways and Ongoing Questions: The experience provided me with numerous significant takeaways rather than just one. It inspired me to experiment with new teaching methods based on this newfound mindset, encouraged me to explore alternative approaches to engage with and meet the needs of my students, and allowed me to benefit from the shared experiences of other educators.
Thank you Cohort21!
@iqatipi Congratulations on completing your action plan and the end of the beginning of your cohort 21 journey. I hope you enjoyed the process and that you will continue to apply what you learned to your next classroom challenge. Consider coming back as a coach next year!
