I’m pretty tired right now, so can’t think of anything clever to write…look at that pathetic post title. 🙂
Immediate next steps are:
- Connect with our Head of Curriculum to get the data she has collected about trends in students taking comp sci at our school.
- Connect with our guidance department to get data about BH graduates entering STEM post-secondary degrees
- Make presentations/discuss the Grade 9 comp sci course to my Grade 8’s in the next two weeks (before course selection deadline).
I’d like to try and make these connections in the next two weeks.
I think I’ll either use a PPT or prezi with embedded videos.
Erin we didn’t get a chance to talk today but I am also deeply interested in the topic of girls in STEM. I’d love to hear what you come up with, and to share my ideas for implementation at my school. Perhaps we’ll get a chance to talk at the next F2F? At any rate, I wish you much success with your action plan!!

I think that getting this information and ideas around this action plan in front of the students themselves is a great idea! Especially around course selection time they will certainly be listening. So too will their parents. I wonder if you could write a blog post for your school to get this message out there. If you wanted to expand on your audience, the Online publication of OurKids is always looking for interesting and engaging ideas around education.
I also wanted to make sure that you knew about “STEM Education for Girls”. They offer a summer camp and institute to encourage and develop girls in STEM education. However, they also provide great research resources that could be of use to you. Check this out:

And here is the article I was telling you about re: Girls and Happiness: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paula-davislaack/8-messages-to-teach-young-women-and-girls_b_4085583.html
I’m looking forward to reading more, and would love to be a sounding board for you!
Great exciting work!
