Keeping my head above the water…

Well…we are coming up to the next F2F and I have guiltily been unable to stay on top of the Cohort 21 expectations. I can’t believe this is only my second post!

Anyways, I have enjoyed using the Cohort 21 tools in my work at school. I helped guide the Grade 11 English teachers with a new Twitter assignment in their classes. It was a great exercise, where students were commenting upon questions and interviews about the graphic novel “Maus”. Twitter was completely new for the teachers, but the students were ALL over it! It really made me feel old when I started the lesson by asking who used Twitter (95% of them) and who used Facebook (60%) and the response about Facebook was that they only use it to add trip photos for their grandmothers to see! ACK! I guess this falls in line with their recent third-quarter review that showed a decrease in Facebook use among young teenagers.

I guess this is why it’s so important to keep on top of the edtech blogs & twitter feeds, so that we can keep the technology tools we use to be relevant for our students!

  1. Erin,

The C21 experience is a year long. Everyone’s years ebb and flow and you can only handle what you can handle. Lots to share this Saturday that I think will re-energize you.
I’m happy to hear the twitter exercise went well!

  2. Congrats on leading the Twitter exercise! There is a lot being published right now about how teenagers are moving away from Facebook and more towards Twitter. You might be interested in viewing our last Hangout with Dawn Chan, as we do address best policy practices around social media.

  3. Haha – I see a few posts coming out of the woodwork now the 2nd F2F is coming up (ahem, mine!!). It’s ok, it’s ok – as Justin says, Cohort is a year long. But actually a journey for much longer than that. There is time. And it sounds like you are already putting some of your knowledge to great use!
