I was trying to think of a good first post, and instead of researching something else that I can do in my class, I thought, why not share something I already do?
In a word, Linkwad
This little add-on for Firefox (I have contacted the creator and they may be working on a Chrome version soon) allows you to group together bookmarks into a ‘wad’, then save the ‘wad’ as a collective. The wads can be accessed anywhere (like diigo, all you need is to sign on), and the wads can be shared with others.
Here is how I use it in my classroom:
1. Find links I want to use during a lesson (eg. Mitosis), I have some great videos and online tutorials I use for this lesson.
2. Open all the links in Firefox (usually this will take a while to weed through my bookmarks)
3. Click on “Linkwad” extension, and save the Wad under the name “10-Mitosis”
4. Next time I teach Mitosis, I just click on the link, and all the links I needed are saved in one spot. Just a click away.
Lesson planning has become a lot easier, cause I just open the entire wad and can see all the videos and links I had used to deliver that lesson. No more searching through my bookmarks for the ‘right’ links!
Let me know if you would like more help. Try it out!
This is really cool. I will try it this week.
