These are some notes (and several “how might we” questions!) I wrote during our second Cohort 21 face-to-face session at Branksome Hall on Saturday, November 16, 2019.

  • How might we support learners at UTS who are absent from school for extended periods of time due to physical or mental health challenges (concussion, depression, anxiety, etc.) or co-curricular or extra-curricular activities (field trips, clubs, sports teams) who are enrolled in second-language courses?
  • How might we leverage technology to support these students?
  • There are language-learning apps (Duolingo, Memrise, Mango Languages, etc.), however how do we get students to learn our Ontario curriculum expectations, and also meet UTS diploma requirements?

Education technology I want to discover or continue exploring for these purposes:

  1. Pear Deck (the self-directed learning mode)
  2. Google Slides
  3. Google Docs (via Google Classroom assignments)
  4. Flipgrid
  5. Quizlet
