Moving Forward: Action Plan Next Steps

Reflecting and refining our action plans today has allowed me to see some of the small steps or victories that have been happening as I try to encourage the sharing of best practices and innovative strategies in my division.

Some of the small victories that have happened over the past few weeks include: • having follow up conversations with colleagues about an article or resource I have shared with them via email
• have a colleague ask for assistance in using a specific tool
• having time set aside at a divisional meeting to have conversations around technology
• the opportunity to share with parents at an upcoming coffee morning about the use of technology in the classroom

Individually each of these things may see small but looking at it from above it tells me that slowly we are establishing a collaborative culture where people feel safe asking questions and discussing their classroom practices – which is a very personal and private topic. These things are also happening spontaneously which is a good signal because people are thinking about them on their own time!

This week I am going to help facilitate a divisional discussion around technology tools and present at a parent coffee morning, both great opportunities to continue to build the collaborative culture. I think that both of these steps are going to be important in going forward and examining action plan.

  1. Small victories still gain ground. You are enriching the learning experience not just of your students, but of your colleagues, as well. And, parent coffee morning chats are so valuable. Having parents understand the why and how of what is happening in their child’s classroom bolsters their confidence and often opens doors for interesting collaboration and support.
