As I embarked on Cohort 21 in the autumn, I was tasked by my school to delve into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and explore its potential applications in both my teaching practice and within the broader scope of Holy Name of Mary College School.
Over the ensuing months, I dedicated myself to integrating AI into my classroom dynamics while engaging in constructive dialogues with our school’s AI team. Together, we delved into various facets of AI implementation, from upholding academic integrity to optimizing classroom instruction and assessment methodologies.
Through the collaborative platform of Cohort 21, coupled with frequent interactions with our school’s committed AI team, we managed to streamline our approach to this seemingly monumental endeavour. We identified key areas of focus and delineated actionable steps to effectively integrate AI into our educational landscape.
My action plan, consequently, pivoted towards establishing a comprehensive framework for AI utilization, fostering a culture of openness among colleagues, aligning AI initiatives with our school’s mission, and nurturing meaningful student-teacher relationships.
In terms of framework development, our discussions revolved around refining AI prompts, adapting evaluation methods to suit an AI-driven environment, and safeguarding academic integrity.
Addressing the mindset shift among educators emerged as another crucial aspect of our strategy. We sought to dispel apprehensions surrounding AI adoption, emphasizing its role as an innovative educational tool while reaffirming the indispensability of critical thinking skills.
Furthermore, under the umbrella of Mission Integration, we remained steadfast in preserving the ethos of Holy Name of Mary College, ensuring that AI integration respects and upholds the authenticity of our community.
In navigating the artificial landscape, we underscored the importance of viewing teaching as a relational journey with students, wherein the process holds greater significance than the final outcome. We explored avenues to leverage AI in enhancing the learning process and reimagining evaluation criteria to encompass holistic growth.
Cohort 21 has been instrumental in fostering invaluable networking opportunities, bolstering my commitment to the action plan, and providing the necessary support to dedicate time to this transformative endeavour. As I stand at this juncture, armed with a tangible action plan and a plethora of “How might we…” questions, I am eagerly anticipating the journey ahead and the transformative potential it holds for education at Holy Name of Mary College School.
