Down one game, but it’s a 7 game series….

field-of-dreams-2

Jays lost last night 2-0 and then I spent the next day (Saturday) being inundated with the infinite possibilities and complexities behind Edtech at #cohort21. After two hours of whirl-winding through the carousels of Twitter, Google+, Diigo and this blog software tutorials, I feel like Devon Travis who limped off the field in the 6th inning. As opposed to extending this loose analogy any further it is immediately clear that I am facing down a 7 game series with all of this tech integration stuff. I arrived with some goals about what I was hoping to get from this but those have dissolved, re-birthed and shape shifted as I have worked through the introductions to the Edtech software above. I have developed a ton of really great ideas for my classes and for the team I lead at school. Right now they seem as scattered as Bautista’s hit count, but I am certain that as I continue to play around with the various options they will become clarified and practical.

Looking ahead to the next face to face meeting in November, here are a few of the ideas I would like to just take a swing at in the coming weeks:

  • Use Twitter in my English class for group responses to media texts
  • Use Diigo in my Theory of Knowledge class to look at articles in groups
  • Try to keep up my blogging reflections
  • Use Google Slides for collaboration and instruction in all of my classes
  • Use Google Plus to begin to organize the curriculum team that I lead at school

That’s about it for now…

*I realize that by the time this was posted the Jays were down two games : (  That has nothing to do with how I feel about cohort21. The analogy ended in the paragraph above.  Go Jays!

  1. There are a few of us who are Jays fans in the Cohort, so hopefully November F2F will be a celebration on many many fronts! My advice to you coming out of the gates is to check out your school’s Social Media Policy. See what the parameters are of “the box”, and then play within them. Yes, you heard right – play INSIDE the box 🙂

  2. I’m loving all the Jays fans in this year’s Cohort! Your analogies are spot on, and I hope that there will be another forthcoming tonight after the Jays upcoming win (…?)

The energy with which you are jumping in with both feet to the new tools you’ve begun to learn is awesome to see. I can’t wait to see and hear at the next F2F how your initial ideas play out!

    Go JAYS!

  3. Glad we were able to inspire some fresh ideas and opportunities to try new things in your classroom. Buckle up for November when we go deep with Design Thinking and dive into some of the challenges you are facing this year. Welcome aboard!

  4. Hey Jordan! Great post! Please let me know if you need any examples of how you can use google slides to promote collaboration with students in your classroom! Your baseball metaphor is perfect. Can’t wait to see where you go with your action plan.
