Hangin’ with the Cohort

The power of community is breath-taking. The synergy created by like-minded individuals has the capability to implement real change. That’s my first impression of Cohort 21. Sure, it felt a little cultish at the start as we talked extensively about the amazing journey we were about to embark on. But when the dust settled, the kool-aid went down smooth and indeed I was a changed man. Kudos goes to all of those involved who believed, established and continue this community. It certainly is the real deal.

Educators have this way of communicating enthusiasm like no other profession. It is our jobs after all. Imagine what happens when you fill a room with 40 uber-passionate educators. That’s what Cohort 21 is. A big bowl full of passion. And, I love it.

The next 8 or so months should be an intense experience.

Giddy-up!

  1. Thanks Jason. I too felt the same way. The various videos combined with in person reflections certainly left me thinking “is this too much?”… “is this getting cheesy?”. But then I remember that those comments are authentic. People actually feel that way…. an not about Cohort 21 mind you…but the process they just went through and the community they now feel a part of. I know it is the reason that I continue to invest time in maintaining it. It is people like @gnichols @lmcbeth @rutheichholtz @ddoucet @adamcaplan @ckirsh @shelleythomas @timrollwagen that I call colleagues but also friends. It is my hope that you too have the same experience 🙂

  2. Hey Jason,
So great to hear that you’re pumped about the year! It is an interesting dynamic at the Cohort especially since we’re in our 5th iteration. In my first year it was all new to everyone and now there are coaches and facilitators who’ve been together from 5 years to just one. There’s a lot of shared experiences in the room, and that’s the power of Cohort, and I’m sure that you’ll make a lot of those connections this year as well!
