Let’s Be Real

This is my ‘Makerspace’ at the end of a long day. After many art classes and an awesome lunchtime art club. I put ‘Makerspace’ in quotation marks because perhaps thats not the most appropriate word to use. We could call it the materials shelf, the supplies area, unorganized, a disaster…definitely a disaster. My goal this year is to learn more about Makerspaces and create the best possible space for my students and their needs. Let the journey, or should I say CREATING, begin!

  1. Hi Andrea, this looks like you are well on your way to making a makerspace. I love how neat and tidy it looks; definitely photo-worthy. I wonder what you think you might be missing? I look forward to reading more about your journey to makerspace bliss.

  2. I love that the kids have access and freedom to access this. I have seen makerspaces before that are in closets in the back of the room. Filled with gadgets, toys and supplies but not visible and therefore not as well used as it could be in the classroom.

  3. Hi Andrea,

I think that this is great. One of the things that I am exploring with Makerspaces is the “why” behind it. If you want it to be creative, how do you create and hold space for taking creative risks, for validating the simple creations to the complex in equal ways. In the past, I’ve looked at honoring the process, not just the product.

I’m excited about your journey ahead!
    garth.
