I won’t say too much about it here, but rather, I hope that you’ll take a few moments to check it out!

After brainstorming and playing around with a few different vehicles for compiling and presenting my research on flourishing, I decided that a website would be the most suitable format. So, I tried by hand at building a website on Weebly – a feat that was far less intimidating since gaining some confidence in my tech-savviness via participation Cohort 21. What was once a fixed mindset (“I’m just not that good at tech”), has become a growth mindset (“I’ll muddle through it, and figure it out as I go”). As it turned out, I loved making the website. Weebly is a user-friendly, intuitive, free platform for designing websites and blogs. I’m already dreaming up its many applications in the classroom.

It is important to note that the Toolkit is a “living resource” – in other words, it’ll never be quite finished. As I continue to come across interesting tools and information, I’ll continue to add to and edit the site.

On to Phase 3: Implementation – perhaps the most exciting part. Stay tuned!

  1. Allison, this is so great. Your feeling of empowerment is exactly what we want all educators to feel when trying something new. Your action plan on flourishing is so interesting and I really look forward to seeing your website. When I clicked the link – I was secretly hoping for a sneak peek but I’ll be patient. I look forward to seeing what you’ve done in more detail at our last F2F!

  2. Hi Allison,
The link is live and it is incredible! What a great list of resources! I would suggest a change in the layout so that the structure of your site mimics the hierarchy of the subsections. Also, I think that the video section is robust, but it would help to add in a brief synopsis or a ‘why I added this video” section to help others get a sense of WHO the resources would be best suited for for, and in WHAT ways.

For example, the Shawn Achor video: Best for Teachers to understand the importance of “why flourishing matters”. It is used to understand the foundations of Positive Psychology and some best practices. “The absence of illness is not health…”

I love the visual nature of it. Congrats on a great step forward!

    1. Garth,

Thank you so much for the feedback – great suggestions! I’m in Ottawa this week with the Grade 8s, but I’ll work on the website when I’m back.

      Thanks again for your support!

  3. Wow! That is so unbelievable! What a wonderful way to showcase your growth, your journey and your clear and passionate love for students and their well being. It makes me beam with pride for you and all you have accomplished. I am grappling with the same question (with not nearly the same grace, organization and passion as you.)

You have much to be pleased with.
    Danielle

  4. Thank you so much for your kind words, Danielle!

I’ve been inspired by your work on growth mindsets, and the great questions that you’ve been posing. In one of your recent blog posts, you comment on the importance of modeling the goals that you want your students to pursue – this has been a key learning for me over the course of the year as well.

I’m lucky to be surrounded by such a supportive network! Thanks again!
