{"id":235,"date":"2015-04-24T05:24:33","date_gmt":"2015-04-24T09:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/?p=235"},"modified":"2015-08-19T15:01:12","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T19:01:12","slug":"it-all-comes-down-to-feedback-pbl-and-personlized-learning-in-biology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/2015\/04\/24\/it-all-comes-down-to-feedback-pbl-and-personlized-learning-in-biology\/","title":{"rendered":"It All Comes Down to Feedback &#8211; PBL and Personlized Learning in Biology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am going to own up to the fact that sometimes I find it very difficult\u00a0to give structured\u00a0and critical feedback. \u00a0Throughout my <a href=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/38\/files\/2015\/08\/2-1024x768.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-237 \" src=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/38\/files\/2015\/08\/2-1024x768.png\" alt=\"2\" width=\"470\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a>career, I have found that the varying expectations of myself as a teacher from both\u00a0students and admin have been drastically different. \u00a0My recent experience with my grade 12 Biology project has made me realize that I give the best feedback in face to face experiences. \u00a0Project Based Learning allowed me to take a step away from the front of the room and join the students in their journey through this process. \u00a0I used many many &#8216;mini-conferences&#8217; and daily goal setting and reflections allowed for a constant &#8216;checkpoint&#8217; or conversation outside of class through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=r0NXeDKPyls\">DocAppender and Google Forms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Challenges:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pushing students to be more creative with their approach &#8211; Design Thinking process would have helped.<\/li>\n<li>Empathizing more with my students about the challenges that this type of open ended project might cause.<\/li>\n<li>Being different and learning through this process caused anxiety within the classroom at points<\/li>\n<li>providing constructive and continual feedback was certainly a challenge for me but a crucial part to this type of learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is my Action Plan reflection &#8211; Certainly much to learn from this experience and some tweaks for next year as well. \u00a0In the end I was very pleased with what students were able to accomplish and with the depth at which they were to explore.
