{"id":142,"date":"2014-08-22T03:15:55","date_gmt":"2014-08-22T03:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/?p=142"},"modified":"2014-08-22T03:15:55","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T03:15:55","slug":"back-at-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/2014\/08\/22\/back-at-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Back at it&#8230; What are you excited about this year?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_144\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/38\/files\/2014\/08\/back-to-school-funny-2-twitter.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144\" class=\"wp-image-144 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/38\/files\/2014\/08\/back-to-school-funny-2-twitter-300x203.jpeg\" alt=\"What did you do all summer? \" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/files\/2014\/08\/back-to-school-funny-2-twitter-300x203.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/files\/2014\/08\/back-to-school-funny-2-twitter-100x67.jpeg 100w, https:\/\/cohort21.com\/timrollwagen\/files\/2014\/08\/back-to-school-funny-2-twitter.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">What I did on my summer vacation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hard to believe that summer has already come and gone. \u00a0No, I am not wishing away the warm-ish weather, but the school year is fast approaching and it&#8217;s time to start thinking of my year ahead. \u00a0With a new addition to my\u00a0family in July and a new house, it has been tough to keep up the momentum that Cohort 21 provided this past year.<\/p>\n<p>What, do you ask, did Cohort 21 provide me as a teacher?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First of all and most of all, it provided a\u00a0<strong>professional learning network<\/strong>\u00a0(Check out all the <a href=\"http:\/\/cohort21.com\/blogs\/\">Cohort 21\u00a0blogs<\/a>)\u00a0of which I had never seen before. \u00a0The motivation,\u00a0inspiration, and people that <a title=\"Garth\" href=\"http:\/\/cohort21.com\/garthnichols\/\">Garth Nichols<\/a> &amp; <a title=\"Justin\" href=\"http:\/\/cohort21.com\/blog\/author\/jmedved\/\">Justin Medved<\/a>\u00a0brought to every face to face meeting was astounding.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opportunity to learn\u00a0new things<\/strong>, try them in your classroom, and reflect on them was absolutely pivotal in pushing me\u00a0out of my\u00a0comfort zone as a teacher. \u00a0I know my students appreciated something\u00a0unique, new, or sometimes just &#8216;edutaining&#8217; after I came back from our meetings\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/getkahoot.com\/\">Kahoot.<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">it<\/span>\u00a0for example).<\/li>\n<li><strong>A positive learning environment\u00a0&#8211;<\/strong> We all learn and strive to provide this for our students but do we really get this from the people who run our learning sessions&#8230;Cohort allowed for a comfortable, relaxing, and positive environment to explore new ideas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A new view on teaching<\/strong> &#8211; My eyes are open after many years of pushing on my own. \u00a0I love the community I have become a part of, I think about what I do in the classroom and reflect on it, and I strongly believe that my students benefit every day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year, my learning continues\u00a0and so will\u00a0my blog (I apologize for the break!). \u00a0I recently registered for the <a title=\"GAFE summit\" href=\"http:\/\/qc.gafesummit.com\/\">GAFE summit in Montreal<\/a> and am looking forward to attending my second professional learning opportunity with Google Educators. \u00a0I strongly recommend their Google Apps bootcamp . \u00a0It opened my eyes to the power of Google in the classroom and I look forward to more learning.
