I was reminded that change does not always begin with a big announcement or a perfect plan. Sometimes it begins by noticing what is already within reach, making that learning visible, and leading from the spot where you are. That feels like a hopeful and energizing place to begin again.

As I enter Season 15, I want to keep building on my action plan, even as I acknowledge that progress has been slower than I hoped. My focus has been on healthy masculinities and the role health classes can play as a jumping-off point. I want to start within my sphere of influence, then keep asking how that work might reach beyond it. I am also curious about what we are already doing in Grades 3–6 that can help lay a foundation for healthy masculinity in our students as they move through the middle school and high school. I do not have every answer, but I want to learn how the pieces connect.

A few ideas that I’m starting to consider as I move into an Action Project for Season 15:

One important part of my/our work is making learning visible. People do not necessarily know much about what happens in our health and phys. ed. classes, or our experiential learning programs, so documentation can help share and deepen the learning.

In our Outdoor Classroom Learning program, I work with Grades 3–6 students twice monthly, and I want to document that learning in ways that make its value easier to see and connect with classroom work.

I am also interested in incorporating the Let Grow project, drawing on Jonathan Haidt’s work, into the health program to support student well-being through building independence and meaning.

Alongside that, I want to bring more voices and media into the health, phys. ed. and experiential learning programs, draw on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and continue working toward healthy masculinities.

I also believe that a school-wide health program continuum could help create consistency, accountability, and change.

I am trying to understand the kind of leader I can be from where I am: a coach, mentor, innovator, and trusted teacher. I feel more confident and comfortable supporting first-year participants and helping them keep working on their ideas. I also know I need support and examples. I want to learn what is working in other schools: how health classes, units, and programs are structured; how outdoor education connects back to the classroom without adding too much work for either outdoor-education or core teachers; and how schools monitor, track, and plan for health programs that are relevant, progressive, and meaningful.

My hope is to keep this work upbeat and fun without losing its deeper meaning. Community, curiosity, and coaching can help me keep moving: listening to others, asking better questions, making the learning visible, and encouraging ideas to grow. I am still learning, and I expect the path to unfold gradually. For now, I can lead from the spot I am in, stay open to what I discover, and help make space for the next person to lead, too.

Over the last few years, I’ve been thinking more intentionally about how the work already happening in my classes could become a starting point for something larger.
