{"id":56,"date":"2013-04-22T13:51:39","date_gmt":"2013-04-22T17:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/ritapak\/?p=56"},"modified":"2013-04-22T13:51:39","modified_gmt":"2013-04-22T17:51:39","slug":"reflecting-on-my-action-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/ritapak\/2013\/04\/22\/reflecting-on-my-action-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Reflecting on my action plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What a fantastic little experiment in Personalized learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My idea:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/ritapak\/files\/2013\/04\/idea.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-60\" alt=\"Roundtable idea\" src=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/ritapak\/files\/2013\/04\/idea.jpg\" width=\"284\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/ritapak\/files\/2013\/04\/idea.jpg 284w, https:\/\/cohort21.com\/ritapak\/files\/2013\/04\/idea-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 960px) 75vw, 100vw\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why I did it:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul id=\"docs-internal-guid-45ef4266-32dd-ef2a-92d3-34ac4eb9828d\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Tired of boring test style summatives (although IB demands it)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Want to bring real-world connections to Ecology unit<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Trying to find ways to get students to read Science journal\/news articles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What I did:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol id=\"docs-internal-guid-45ef426b-32dc-45f9-0e21-c59f63feee76\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Students select from a list of >100 articles<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Students research topic and prepare to lead a 10 min discussion on article<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Provide info verbally, through presentation<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ask probing questions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">generate meaningful discussion<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Over the course of a week, students lead discussions surrounding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>food, sustainability, biodiversity, carbon footprint, population growth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>My key learning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul id=\"docs-internal-guid-38ffb714-32da-a78d-e1ff-fbd236b30076\">\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">students are so knowledgeable when given a chance to integrate learning from many disciplines<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">personalized learning helps students engage deeply in a topic<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Mandatory participation is sometimes necessary to give everyone a chance to shin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I invite you to take a look at this P<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1_nGTnVU2Uxly7xyi3anjAtk3IcqswoKH1zY5rv4MVuE\/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000\">owerpoint <\/a>for more info.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a fantastic little experiment in Personalized learning.
