I just finished the first draft of the student activity for another History game we will try out with the Gr.7s at UTS. \u00a0The game is called \u2018Flight to Freedom\u2019, and is part of the popular \u2018Mission US<\/a>\u2018 series (geared toward 10-12 year-olds). \u00a0Here is a brief description of the game from the Mission US website:<\/p>\n

In \u201cFlight to Freedom,\u201d players take on the role of Lucy, a 14-year-old slave in Kentucky. As they navigate her escape and journey to Ohio, they discover that life in the \u201cfree\u201d North is dangerous and difficult. In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act brings disaster. Will Lucy ever truly be free?<\/em><\/p>\n

The game has received numerous positive reviews (for example, from Common Sense Media<\/a>). \u00a0The real standout, however, is the accompanying teacher guide<\/a>. \u00a0It is full of a wide variety of activities that can be used in conjunction with the game or on their own. \u00a0It incorporates many original documents<\/a> from the time period.<\/p>\n

As part of the Gr.7 course, the students study the Underground Railroad \u2013 this game and activity will be integrated into this lesson.<\/p>\n
