We as members of the Cohort 21 community (there is one participant from each school) have been asked to incorporate math into our action plans.<\/p>\n<p>What I originally chose to work on was&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>HMW increase grit, resilience and perseverance in Gr 2 math students?<\/p>\n<p>However, I wanted to broaden my scope to include my roIe as the curriculum coordinator for our Jr. School.<\/p>\n<p>This is where I am now&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>HMW as curriculum leaders support teachers to increase grit, resilience and perseverance in their students\u2019 mathematical processes?<\/p>\n<p>I want to focus on problem solving and mental math computation. These are two areas that our Jr. School has identified as areas of weakness.<\/p>\n<p>So far I have\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Incorporated a book study with staff \u2013 Sherry Parrish Number Talks<\/li>\n<li>Visited all Jk-Gr 4 classrooms to model Number Talk lessons<\/li>\n<li>Created a Math video to share with parents and teachers about how children develop their sense of number and provided some strategies to support students in the classroom and at home.\u00a0 This is part of our Spotlight Series <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/221775702\/5145ec407d\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/221775702\/5145ec407d<\/a>\u00a0(Please disregard the fact that it looks like I have suffered a stroke and am 30+ pounds heavier in this video \u2013 those were the lovely side affects of recovering from a concussion for me \u2013 fun times!)<\/li>\n<li>Completed a gold standard PBL project of designing and building a Mouse Library which incorporated many areas of the curriculum.\u00a0 There will be a blog post devoted to this project shortly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My next steps are\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete PD with Number Talks<\/li>\n<li>Provide PD on other math games, strategies and tools \u2013 Thinking about Box Cars and One Eyed Jacks<\/li>\n<li>Create more videos for our Spotlight Series<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019m exploring\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spatial reasoning resources<\/li>\n<li>Box Cars and One Eyed Jacks math games and resources<\/li>\n<li>PBL and how that affects resilience, perseverance and grit<\/li>\n<li>How teaching through PBL impacts particular skills such as mental math computation and problem solving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019m still wrestling with\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The shift from direct instruction to PBL in the classroom, but also with the teachers\u2026I\u2019m using rather \u2018old\u2019 ways to support teachers in their learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Questions that I have for you\u2026<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>How can I be more effective with my teacher facilitation?<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019d love to hear about PD sessions and strategies you, as learners, have found valuable.<\/li>\n<li>How have you facilitated teacher instruction?
