{"id":105,"date":"2025-11-29T14:50:36","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T19:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/kerrierobins\/?p=105"},"modified":"2025-11-29T14:51:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T19:51:15","slug":"bridging-two-campuses-one-connection-at-a-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cohort21.com\/kerrierobins\/2025\/11\/29\/bridging-two-campuses-one-connection-at-a-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Bridging Two Campuses, One Connection at a Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Bridging Two Campuses, One Connection at a Time<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Challenge:<\/strong> How might we connect teachers and students across our two separate campuses to identify and design meaningful opportunities that build a K-12 community?<\/p>\n<h2>The Discovery Phase<\/h2>\n<p>Through our design thinking conversation, I identified the real barriers and opportunities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Barriers:<\/strong> Distance, scheduling constraints, and the need for intentional culture-building<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus:<\/strong> Academic collaboration as the anchor, with community connection woven throughout<\/li>\n<li><strong>Existing Momentum:<\/strong> A Grade 12 student is already volunteering in an SK classroom\u2014proof that cross-campus connection is possible<\/li>\n<li><strong>Champions:<\/strong> Bob Hayes (Junior Campus, KCS Connects Committee) and Laura Sardone (Senior Campus, Assistant Head Academics) are ready to support this work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Insights<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Teachers may not know what&#8217;s possible until we spark their imagination\u2014conversations come before surveys<\/li>\n<li>Start with Junior Campus teachers first, then expand to Senior Campus perspectives<\/li>\n<li>Small, testable pilots create momentum faster than broad initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Leverage existing champions and momentum rather than starting from scratch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Actionable Experiments: December 2025 &#8211; April 2026<\/h2>\n<h3>Phase 1: Research &amp; Listening (This Week &#8211; Early January)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Connect with Bob Hayes to identify 2-3 interested Junior Campus teachers<\/li>\n<li>Conduct quick exploratory conversations to understand what teachers actually want<\/li>\n<li>Post a staff room call-out inviting cross-campus collaboration ideas<\/li>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Gather authentic teacher voice and identify natural collaboration opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Phase 2: Design &amp; Planning (Mid-January)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Analyze responses from staff room call-out and teacher conversations<\/li>\n<li>Design a targeted survey based on conversation insights<\/li>\n<li>Consult with Laura Sardone on Senior Campus needs and constraints<\/li>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Create a clear picture of what both campuses want and need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Phase 3: Pilot Launch (January &#8211; February 2026)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First Experiment:<\/strong> News Crew Club (Junior Campus) collaborates with Comm Tech class (Senior Campus) on joint news interviews<\/li>\n<li>Document the process, challenges, and successes<\/li>\n<li>Gather feedback from students and teachers involved<\/li>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Prove that cross-campus collaboration works and build momentum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Phase 4: Scale &amp; Sustain (March &#8211; April 2026)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Expand successful pilots based on feedback and teacher interest<\/li>\n<li>Formalize cross-campus collaboration structures and processes<\/li>\n<li>Celebrate wins and share outcomes across both campuses<\/li>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Create sustainable pathways for ongoing K-12 community building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why This Approach Works<\/h2>\n<p>Rather than designing a solution in isolation, this design thinking process honors the real constraints and opportunities at our campuses. By starting with conversations, piloting with a concrete project (News Crew + Comm Tech), and then scaling based on what works, I will help build a K-12 community that&#8217;s grounded in what teachers and students actually want\u2014not what I think they need.<\/p>\n<p>The Grade 12 volunteer in the SK classroom is already showing me the way. My job now is to expand that model intentionally and systematically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Step:<\/strong> Reach out to Bob this week.
