Action plan reflection – Getting colleagues excited about Ed Tech

We are at such an exciting and transformational time in education. Experts remind us that children learn differently nowadays and that in order to be effective in the classroom, teachers need to teach in new ways which engage this new generation of digital learners.

As a technology leader in our school, my goal is to help teachers enhance the classroom teaching and learning experience through the use of Ed Tech.

As a part of my C21 action plan I:

  • exposed colleagues to tools such as the Cohort 21 toolkit, and continue to support them
  • help my colleagues to think critically about technology choices in the classroom using models such as SAMR and TPack
  • give my colleagues opportunities to shine in the light and to celebrate their accomplishments
  • expose the value of PLNs where teachers make the choice to dedicate precious time to them, and share in their excitement
  • create environments where teachers are keen to join and see it as a valuable use of time

Time is precious in the teaching profession, which means that a tech coach needs to be very strategic with time allotted with colleagues. PD needs to be planned carefully and to be effective it needs to be something that teachers walk away excited about.

  1. Hi Joe,
Thanks for this post. I encourage you to think about your next steps in implementation of this Action Plan. In that way, you could look ahead with the lens of Design Thinking. For example, with the Empathy stage being first, you could ask of your colleagues: “What needs of theirs come first?” and then “Define” those needs as a problem statement. For example, “How can we make PD more job-emedded and meaningful to the school as a whole?” This is what I have used in the creation of my PD Action Plan. I look forward to sharing this with you at our upcoming F2F!
