\u2018Twas the day before winter break, when all through the college<\/span>
\nNot a test was assigned, not even for knowledge;<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The assessments were edited by students with care,<\/span>
\nIn hopes that the break would soon be there;<\/span><\/h4>\n

The housemasters were nestled up top in their studies;<\/span>
\nWhile visions of empty houses they dreamed with their buddies;<\/span><\/p>\n

And the Chaplin in his sweater, and I in my vest,<\/span>
\nHad begun to settle our brains for a long winter\u2019s rest;<\/span><\/p>\n

When inside the classroom there arose such a clatter,<\/span>
\nI sprang from my office to see what was the matter;<\/span><\/p>\n

When what to my teacher\u2019s eye did appear,<\/span>
\nBut a row of punctual learners and another who had been late all year;<\/span><\/p>\n

More rapid than weekends with their queries did they exclaim,<\/span>
\nAs students whistled, and shouted, when I called them by name;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, Archer? Yes, Amber? Yes Parker and Lauren?<\/span>
\nHold on, Charlotte! Sit down, Mohammad! Be patient Esther and Warren!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In front of the board, to the back of the class, I moved all about,<\/span>
\nUntil their questions were answered, none left in doubt;<\/span><\/p>\n

As the day neared its end a group of papers had flung,<\/span>
\nOut of a student\u2019s bag from around her shoulder it strung;<\/span><\/p>\n

Thereafter their eyes made a shift to the clock,<\/span>
\nSoon the bell would ring, to the door they would flock;<\/span><\/p>\n

And rising from my desk I finally made the call,<\/span>
\nby giving a nod, I allowed the students to flood the hall;<\/span><\/p>\n

They sprang from their seats, from their desks they scurried,<\/span>
\nAnd away they all flew, out the doors they hurried;<\/span><\/p>\n

Then the Headmaster said, ere the students drove out of sight:<\/span>
\n\u201cEnjoy the winter break to all, and to all a safe flight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
